What is DIGIPIN? Know Your Digi Pin Code
DIGIPIN (Digital Postal Index Number), also called digi pin or digital pin code, is India's national geo-coded addressing system officially launched on May 27, 2025 by the Department of Posts under the Ministry of Communications. Developed in collaboration with IIT Hyderabad and NRSC, ISRO, it assigns every 4×4 metre square of India — including remote forests, coastlines, and offshore assets — a unique 10-character alphanumeric code. To know your DIGIPIN, simply click the button above and allow location access.
Example: The DIGIPIN of Dak Bhawan, New Delhi (28.622788°N, 77.213033°E) is 39J49LL8T4.
Why Was DIGIPIN Created?
India's traditional 6-digit PIN code system, introduced in 1972, covers broad postal areas but lacks the precision needed for modern logistics, e-commerce, and emergency services. Over 20% of Indian addresses are non-standard or unmapped digitally. DIGIPIN solves this by giving every location — even a field, a fishing boat, or a mountain trail — a permanent, unchanging digital address.

Is DIGIPIN Free?
Yes. DIGIPIN is a Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) initiative — entirely open source, free to use, and privacy-respecting. All encoding and decoding on this site happens entirely on your device; no data is sent to any server.
DIGIPIN Character Set
DIGIPIN uses 16 approved characters: 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 C F J K L M P T. These were chosen in the March 2025 final specification to avoid visual confusion (no 0, O, 1, I) and to be phonetically clear across all Indian languages. Hyphens and spaces are for display only; the actual code is always 10 continuous characters.
DIGIPIN FAQ — Know Your Digi Pin
Common questions about India Post DIGIPIN, digi pin codes, and digital addresses.
What is DIGIPIN and who made it? +
DIGIPIN (Digital Postal Index Number) is a 10-character geo-coded address system developed by India Post in collaboration with IIT Hyderabad and NRSC (ISRO). It was officially launched on May 27, 2025 to give every 4×4 metre square of India a unique, permanent digital address.
How accurate is DIGIPIN? +
DIGIPIN resolves to a grid cell of approximately 4 metres × 4 metres — roughly the size of a small room or a parking spot. This is far more precise than a traditional PIN code, which can cover entire postal districts spanning several kilometres.
Will my DIGIPIN ever change? +
No. DIGIPIN is derived purely from geographic coordinates (latitude/longitude), not from street names, district boundaries, or administrative divisions. Even if a road is renamed or a city expands, your DIGIPIN stays the same forever.
Does DIGIPIN work outside India? +
The India DIGIPIN standard is designed for India's territorial boundaries including the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). Coordinates outside this bounding box (roughly 2°N–39°N latitude, 63°E–100°E longitude) cannot be encoded as a standard DIGIPIN.
Is my location data safe? +
Yes. All DIGIPIN encoding and decoding on digipin.codes runs entirely in your browser using the open-source algorithm. Your coordinates are never sent to any server, stored, or logged anywhere. The algorithm runs 100% on your device.
DIGIPIN kaise pata kare? (How to find DIGIPIN?) +
Apni DIGIPIN jaanne ke liye upar diye gaye tool mein "Use My Location" button dabaiye. Aapki GPS location automatically detect hogi aur aapka DIGIPIN code turant mil jayega. Aap coordinates manually bhi enter kar sakte hain.
What are the valid characters in a DIGIPIN code? +
A valid DIGIPIN uses exactly 16 characters: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, C, F, J, K, L, M, P, T. It is always exactly 10 characters long. The March 2025 final specification replaced G, W, X with C, F, T for better readability.
How do I share my DIGIPIN with someone? +
Simply copy the 10-character code (use the "Copy DIGIPIN" button) and share it via WhatsApp, SMS, or any messaging app. The recipient can paste it into the "DIGIPIN → Coordinates" tab on this site to see the exact location.
What is the difference between digi pin and old PIN code? +
The old 6-digit postal PIN code covers broad postal areas (5–50 km²). The new digi pin (DIGIPIN) from India Post is a 10-character code covering just 4×4 metres — thousands of times more precise. Both exist simultaneously; DIGIPIN is the newer digital standard.
How to find 6 digit pin code of my location? +
If you are looking for the traditional 6-digit postal PIN code, that is based on your post office area. But India Post has now introduced the DIGIPIN — a much more precise digital pin code for your exact GPS location. Use digipin.codes to instantly know your new digital pin code (DIGIPIN) for free.
Know your DIGIPIN — how accurate is it? +
When you click "Know Your DIGIPIN" on this site, accuracy depends on your device's GPS. Most smartphones achieve 3–10 metre accuracy outdoors. The DIGIPIN code itself resolves to a 4×4 metre cell, so any point within that cell gets the same code.
What does DIGIPIN India Post mean for deliveries? +
India Post DIGIPIN will transform last-mile delivery. Instead of writing a long address, you share your 10-character DIGIPIN and the delivery person can navigate to your exact doorstep — even in areas with no named streets or in new housing societies.
